The music for Energetic Force takes interviews with the dancers, molding, splicing, processing and playing with snippets of the interviews to create the energetic dance track for the work.

The opening unfolds with the dancers voices as they slowly walk onto stage, building into a stochastic texture until finally the momentum can hold off no longer, exploding into an energetic dance track.

“Energetic Force” was originally created for a Sydney Dance Company performance and later released as a standalone work. The piece is built from interviews with dancers and incorporates a sample from the song “Pump Up the Jam“.

The PPY1’s are in this fascinating moment where their relationship to dance is fundamentally changing. They are choosing to commit to dance full time, perhaps they’re on the cusp of a career, or a lifetime in dance. Here is a special moment to make visible the people behind the dancers.

Devised in collaboration with the performers this piece invites the eyes of the audience, as well as the eyes of their peers, into this moment of shifting sands and deepening practice.
